1985 V8 Vantage X-Pack Development Car
X-Pack Development Car
In 1985 ‘12466’ was built as a standard production V8 Vantage and delivered for use as a demonstrator by Stratton Motor Company, the authorised Aston Martin agent. Though it went to their Norfolk premises it also spent time at Newport Pagnell since this for many customers was a more convenient place to view and test the car.
The car was returned to Newport Pagnell in 1986. She was then chosen as the development option by the Engineering department and allocated project number DP2035. The car was used to develop both the X-Pack options and automatic transmission, at the time fitted with very early Compomotive wheels (available with the car)
The accompanying history file details the cars extraordinary story. Including the instruction to rebuild the engine to ‘X’ specification by Aston Works. Purchased in 1989 directly from Aston Martin, the new owner rightly converted the car back to manual transmission as originally optioned in 1985. Before delivery, the car had undergone a full update of the air-conditioning and was adapted to 1988 specification.
