1977 Aston Martin V8
Very well cared for V8 Aston
Completed at Newport Pagnell Works in August 1977, built with automatic transmission and originally finished in Madagascar Brown metallic with Magnolia hide. Natural headlining and Sandringham Beige carpets. Delivered to its first owner by Reg Vardy Ltd and registered on 24th August 1977.
This car is fitted with the ‘S’ engine modification designed to liberate a little more power, reduce fuel consumption and reduce noise, known as ‘Stage 1’ tune or sometimes ‘S-spec’, announced in June 1977. Stage 1 tune was an intermediate step between the previous regular V540 and ‘Stage 2’ ‘Vantage’ tune which chiefly involved new camshafts with a polynomial profile and the fitting of a ‘Vantage’ exhaust. Other small detailed changes included more modern looking black bezels replacing chrome around instrument dials, the deletion of the chrome trim on the rain gutters and the fitting of Koni dampers.
Pre-Stage 1 – Maximum power was not quoted at the time but now believed to be between 280 bhp and 300 bhp. ‘S’ spec engine believed to be 306 bhp @ 6,000 rpm
The car was purchased by a Swedish owner in 1986 and subsequently spent a lot of its time through the late 1980’s and 1990’s in Sweden.
Whilst in Sweden the car had its body and chassis restored by a Rolls Royce and Bentley specialist, there are numerous bills (in Swedish) relating to this work, along with corresponding invoices from Aston Martin Newport Pagnell for many new parts including new bumpers, carpets, various rubber and service parts. There are also photographs of chassis work and complete bare metal repaint changing colour to Ecosse Blue metallic.
The following custodian purchased the car at auction in May 2001 and subsequently had an inspection carried out by ourselves. He proceeded to have all advised works done in conjunction with routine servicing and MOT’s over the next few years. Works included full overhaul of brakes, suspension, new differential, various hoses, propshaft UJ’s, tyres, fuel pump, water pump etc. At the end of 2008 the engine was stripped and rebuilt with new internal parts and machining as required along with a full carburettor overhaul at 81,129 miles.
Although regularly MOT’d the car was predominantly stored and little used from 2011, having covered just 1,000 miles in those five years. In 2016 the car has had a full inspection and again any items found wanting attention were replaced accordingly.
Sold by ourselves in 2017, we have continued to maintain this car up until the present day. Currently being prepared for sale. Please call for more information.
